Push notifications are a new addition to The Irish Times news app, alerting you when the biggest news stories are about to break. When a push notification is received it will pop up on your screen similar to a text message. Depending on your settings the alert may also be accompanied by a sound. Tapping the notification will load the corresponding story in the app.
To turn notifications off, tap Settings in the app menu and swipe Push Notifications to off. Alternatively, go to your device's settings menu and select Application Manager. From here, choose The Irish Times news app from the list. Uncheck the Show Notifications checkbox in order to stop receiving notifications from the app.

Yes, you will need an Irish Times account to comment on an article.
When viewing comments in the app choose the 'Sign up' link above the comment box. Fill in the form and choose a screen name to appear beside each of your comments. When you have submitted the form you will be sent a confirmation email. Once you have confirmed your email address you can sign in and begin to comment.
Tap on the Comments button at the base of the article and either sign in or sign up to leave a comment. Note: not all articles are open for comment.
Once you choose your screen name you cannot change it afterwards.
To listen to podcasts, select Podcasts in the menu and tap on the play icon. You can continue listening to the podcasts while you browse the app, or you can pause the podcasts.
To download podcasts, select Podcasts in the menu and tap on the download icon . When the download is complete you will be able to play the podcast when you are offline.
To delete a podcast, simply tap on the blue pin icon beneath your saved podcast to delete it from your saved list.
You can either swipe through the section pages or you can navigate using the menu.
In order to save a specific article, tap the Overflow Icon in the top right hand corner of the article to reveal the Save Article option. Once saved, you can access articles when you are online or offline from the Saved Articles folder in the menu. To remove saved articles, press and hold on an article you wish to remove. A Bin Icon
will appear in the top of the menu, as well as a counter informing you that you have highlighted one article. From here, simply tap on all articles you wish to delete in order to select them and when finished press the Bin Icon
. This will delete all selected articles.
Users may keep an unlimited amount of saved articles in their Saved Items folder.
Content will be updated automatically every time you open the app and periodically as you browse. To update the app manually, pull down on the top story within any section.
In order to share a specific article, tap the Overflow Icon in the top right hand corner of the article to reveal the Share Article option. From here, simply select your preferred method of sharing.
Should you wish to use The Irish Times news app when you're offline, you can save the latest content to your device. Go to Settings in the app, select Going Offline and then Download Articles. Once the process is complete, you will be able to access content even if Airplane Mode is activated or if you do not have network coverage. Only articles that have been fully downloaded will be available for offline reading. Videos, galleries and podcasts that have not been downloaded will be unavailable and the app will not update until it is reconnected to the internet.
The Irish Times news app offers three different article font sizes, Standard, Large and Extra Large which can be adjusted based on user preference. To change the font size, go to Settings in the app, choose Text Size and adjust the size of the text based on your preference. Your choice will be remembered and it can be changed again at any time. NOTE: Font size can only be altered at article level, and font size outside of articles will remain at the standard size.
Crosswords are not currently available on the app but you can buy a crosswords subscription on irishtimes.com/games/crosswords.
Yes, the app can be viewed in both portrait and landscape mode.

To remove The Irish Times news app, follow the same procedure that you'd use for any Android app. Go to the Settings area on your device, tap Applications, then go to Manage Applications. Select the The Irish Times news app and tap Uninstall.
The Irish Times news app requires a working internet connection in order to stay updated with news stories as they break. If you are having trouble loading articles you will need to check your WiFi network or ensure you have access to your network provider.
